Lina Alorabi is a highly accomplished designer who has been based in Cairo since late 2009. With a passion for showcasing ancient crafts, techniques, and culture through her designs, Lina has made significant contributions to the international design scene. Her works have been exhibited at prestigious events like the Milan Triennale, Dubai Design Week, and NOMAD. After completing her education in the UK and gaining experience in Germany, Lina returned to her homeland of Egypt, driven by a deep appreciation for the country’s rich history and craftsmanship. Since then, she has immersed herself in Cairo’s neighborhoods, unearthing hidden gems of craft excellence. Additionally, Lina has worked with diverse clients, ranging from high-end to commercial, exploring various sources of inspiration, be it street culture or the expertly shaped alabaster of Luxor. Lina’s projects are characterized by their unique approach to Egyptian design. She demonstrates an ability to uncover and reveal the often-overlooked value of distinctly Egyptian sources without resorting to mere imitation or pastiche. Her exceptional talent and dedication have led her to her current role as the lead designer for Don Tanani, an Egyptian brand at the forefront of redefining design in Egypt. In 2021, Lina introduced her inaugural collection for Don Tanani called “Duality.” This collection masterfully reinterprets Ancient Egyptian art and mythology, blending traditional and contemporary elements. The collection made its debut at the prestigious NOMAD event held in St. Moritz, capturing the attention and praise of the global design community.
